Language, Literacy & Communication – Year 4 pupils visited Cwmbran library where we were treated to a hilarious tribute to Roald Dahl called “Imagine that show” We have since been reading a playscript of ‘James & the Giant Peach’ in some of our Guided Reading groups.
Mathematics & Numeracy – This year, we have been working on our mental and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including calculating with money. We have also practiced weighing items using scales. We weighed different types of food in grams and kilograms.
Topic – Our Autumn term topic was “Come Dine with me” and our chosen country was Italy, so we learned all about Italy and Italian food. We wrote reports about Italy and designed a holiday brochure persuading people to visit Venice. We tasted different types of Italian cuisine before going shopping for ingredients to make pizzas, then made our own and wrote a recipe. We also loved using the green screen to film ourselves making a presentation about why Italian food is the best in the world!
Expressive Arts – We were very lucky to have a specialist Italian teacher visit our class for a special workshop where we learned to speak a bit of Italian and absolutely loved making Venetian-style carnival masks. Bellissimo!
Welsh – We have been enjoying learning Welsh as a second language using our new scheme of work: Antur Anhygoel: Porffor (Amazing Adventure: Purple). We have also practiced asking and answering the question: “Beth wyt ti’n hoffi wneud?” – “What do you like doing?” and used the iPad app Comic Life to practice this sentence pattern.
