Reception Parents Lunch

Reception parents are invited to have lunch with their children on Wednesday 19th Sept. 11.30am to 12.

Eco Committee

Miss Bevan has asked that any children who wish to form the Eco Committee this academic year to complete an application and return to her by Wednesday 19th September.  The positions are available for children in Years 1 – 6. Application forms can be collected from Miss Bevan’s classroom.

Welsh Phrase of the Fortnight

We continue to encourage everyone to use Welsh throughout the week.  We are trying to use simple familiar phrases to help develop our speaking skills. Please encourage your child to speak Welsh as much as they can out of school.

Our Welsh phrase of the week for this coming week will be:

Sut wyt ti'n teimlo heddiw? – How are you feeling today?

Attendance

Maendy is a ‘Rights Respecting School’.  The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.

Absences and Lates
All absences must be reported to our school office by 9:00am by leaving a message either at the office or by telephone. We thank you again for your co-operation with this matter. Any children arriving late to school must be taken directly to the school office by the parent. We must respectfully request that children are not lifted over the fence into the outdoor classrooms as this is a health and safety issue.

Our school target is 95.5%. The school’s current attendance record is 94.5.%. Below is the weekly attendance for all year groups:

Nursery 59.8% Reception 93.2% Year 1/2B 90.2% Year 1/2K 97.6%

Year 3 91.7% Year 4 96.1.% Year 5 94.5% Year 6 95.3% SNRB 96.4%

This year, Torfaen Council’s education service have launched a ‘Strive for 95!’ initiative to improve pupil attendance and reduce unauthorised absence in all Torfaen schools. Every pupil who achieves 95% attendance or higher during each school term will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the school year to win £50 of high street vouchers. Please see Torfaen’s website for further details; https://www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/EducationLearning/SchoolsColleges/AttendanceBehaviourWelfare/AttendanceatSchool/School-Attendance.aspx
