All diary dates and important notices will still be communicated via the website, but if you do not already have access to your child’s Dojo then please see your child’s class teacher as we will be posting lots of information there.

Friday 8th March

Friday 8th March we will be celebrating World Book Day! We are excited to be having a visit from Dan Anthony! As it is also the week we celebrate St David’s Day, we have sought out Dan Anthony as a Welsh author to share his tips and tricks of writing with us! Children may dress in a Welsh themed costume, or a character from their favourite book!

Attendance

Maendy is a ‘Rights Respecting School’.  The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.

Absences and Lates
All absences must be reported to our school office by 9:00am by leaving a message either at the office or by telephone. We thank you again for your co-operation with this matter. Any children arriving late to school must be taken directly to the school office by the parent.

Our school target is 95.5%. The school’s current attendance record is 95%. Below is the weekly attendance for all year groups:

Nursery 81.4% Reception 93.6% Year 1/2B 93.4% Year 1/2K 95.8%

Year 3 96.7% Year 4 94.3% Year 5 93.8% Year 6 96.4% SNRB 92.7%

This year, Torfaen Council’s education service have launched a ‘Strive for 95!’ initiative to improve pupil attendance and reduce unauthorised absence in all Torfaen schools. Every pupil who achieves 95% attendance or higher during each school term will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the school year to win £50 of high street vouchers. Please see Torfaen’s website for further details; https://www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/EducationLearning/SchoolsColleges/AttendanceBehaviourWelfare/AttendanceatSchool/School-Attendance.aspx
