Safer Internet Workshops:

Diolch yn fawr to all of those who attended out Safer Internet Workshop on Friday! We really hope that you found it both useful and interesting.

School Uniform

We are noticing a growing number of pupils who are not wearing their full school uniform to school. We do kindly ask that all pupils adhere to our uniform, to ensure that all pupils feel they are part of our school community.

Healthy Schools

A gentle reminder that we are a Healthy School, so it is part of our school policy that pupils have a healthy, fruit snack at play times, drink bottles are to be filled with water only, and packed lunches should form a healthy, balanced meal.

A typical lunchbox should include: a sandwich, 2 pieces of fruit or vegetable, a dairy product such as yoghurt, and a low-sugar/salt treat.

Attendance

Maendy is a ‘Rights Respecting School’.  The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.

Absences and Lates
All absences must be reported to our school office by 9:00am by leaving a message either at the office or by telephone. We thank you again for your co-operation with this matter. Any children arriving late to school must be taken directly to the school office by the parent.

Our school target is 95.5%. The school’s current attendance record is 94.9%. Below is the weekly attendance for all year groups:

Nursery 83.0% Reception 93.6% Year 1/2B 93.8% Year 1/2K 95.6% Rising 3’s 87.1%

Year 3 96.2% Year 4 94.5% Year 5 93.6% Year 6 97% SNRB 91.6%

This year, Torfaen Council’s education service have launched a ‘Strive for 95!’ initiative to improve pupil attendance and reduce unauthorised absence in all Torfaen schools. Every pupil who achieves 95% attendance or higher during each school term will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the school year to win £50 of high street vouchers. Please see Torfaen’s website for further details; https://www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/EducationLearning/SchoolsColleges/AttendanceBehaviourWelfare/AttendanceatSchool/School-Attendance.aspx
