Miss Cleary will begin a new teaching post in Dubai this September. We would like to wish Miss Cleary a fond farewell as she embarks upon her new adventure and we wish her every success!

Mrs Fowkes will be teaching the Year 3 class this year as Miss Evans enjoys her maternity leave. We will keep you posted with details of her new baby when she arrives!

Welsh Phrase of the Fortnight

We continue to encourage everyone to use Welsh throughout the week.  We are trying to use simple familiar phrases to help develop our speaking skills. Please encourage your child to speak Welsh as much as they can out of school.

Our Welsh phrases of the fortnight will be:

Un, dau, tri, bant a chi – 1, 2, 3 Off we go!

Attendance

Maendy is a ‘Rights Respecting School’.  The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.

Our school target is 95.5%. The school’s current attendance record is 94.7%. Below is the weekly attendance for all year groups:

Nursery 87.6% Reception 92.9% Year 1 94.2% Year 2 96.5% Rising 3’s 86.8%

Year 3 95.2% Year 4 93.5% Year 5 95% Year 6 94.8% SNRB 90.9%

This year, Torfaen Council’s education service have launched a ‘Strive for 95!’ initiative to improve pupil attendance and reduce unauthorised absence in all Torfaen schools. Every pupil who achieves 95% attendance or higher during each school term will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the school year to win £50 of high street vouchers. Please see Torfaen’s website for further details; https://www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/EducationLearning/SchoolsColleges/AttendanceBehaviourWelfare/AttendanceatSchool/School-Attendance.aspx
